In many classrooms today, we are still doing things the same way we did in the 19th century. We still see the teacher as the only authority in the classroom. We need to make changes.
Most classrooms, especially in middle and high school children sitting in rows in the classroom. How does that develop interaction? Back in the 19th century, we were training our children to work on the farm or a trade. Now, children have so many more options to choose from. We need to change for the children so they can be successful.
Some of the ways to make changes are to give students more of a voice in class. Allow them to decide what they want to do. See every child as an individual and empower them to be who they are meant to be. Try not to lump them all together and say, ” My students can’t do this or that.” Find ways to individualize your classrooms and lessons. We need to make changes to the classrooms to fit the 21st century.
