Administrators – How to close out the year with your student’s parents.

How to close out the year with your student’s parents. There are so many end-of-the-year activities in schools. Planning all the activities is time-consuming and exhausting. It is so important that administrators also address the end of the year with parents. Make sure you thank the parents for their support throughout the year. Ask the parents for their continued support during the summer. Provide them with how to encourage their children in summer learning. Remind them of summer work and what it is per grade. Provide as much information as you can to the parents for summer activities.

You will also want to introduce some ideas for the upcoming school year. Start or continue to build on the relationships you have already established during the year with the parents. If you have any students leaving your school by graduating, moving, or any other reasons. Send them a letter about what a joy it was to have their child in your school. Thank them for their support and wish them well in the next chapter. Make the last experience your students and parents will experience is the thank you note.

Many administrators will thank the parents at the events, but sometimes that is not enough. So, it is important to make an effort to show how you care about them by sending them a letter. Also, a handwritten letter sometimes makes a big impression. I have students, staff, and parents show me the handwritten letter I sent many years later. They still had them in their wallets.

So, think of ways to continue building quality relationships with your parents. The parents are partners with you for the success of all the students. Making the parents and families feel accepted and respected. This will help build high-quality schools. Look for ways to build quality relationships with parents all year long. Don’t forget summer can be an incredible opportunity to connect with parents/ families.
